There are thousands of abandoned orphan children in Kenya as a result of AIDS, drought, poverty and internal conflict. Orphan girls, in particular, are vulnerable to exploitation, abuse and death. Metaskil wanted to help alleviate their suffering and has decided to provide long term financial and personal support to an orphanage for abandoned orphan girls in Kenya.
The orphanage, called “The Thika Centre for Good Future” is 30 miles north of Nairobi and was established by the UK charity, Kenya Children Centres, in 1999. Here girls are cared for in a safe and loving home; free from conflict, abuse and exploitation. They live as a family, eat and play together, go to local schools, do their homework and help out with the household chores.
Recently planning approval was obtained to build another Centre to accommodate 100 girls and a Medical Centre for the local community on a new site in the Ngoingwa Estate. Metaskil is contributing to the running costs of the new Centre by sponsoring the subsistence and schooling costs for two of the girls. Richard Hornblow, Metaskil’s Managing Director, said “We are all very pleased to be able to take a personal interest in their lives, follow their progress and give them a secure future.”
